JackWagon Take: If you want to replace an expensive traditional landline without giving up the comfort of having a home phone, Vonage should be on your shortlist.
There was a time when nearly every home had a telephone sitting on the kitchen counter, mounted on the wall, or resting beside the bed.
While technology has changed dramatically, many people still appreciate the convenience of having a dedicated home telephone.
Vonage brings that familiar experience into the modern age using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Instead of carrying conversations across traditional copper telephone lines, your calls travel digitally across your internet connection.
The result is excellent call quality, modern calling features, and often a significantly lower monthly bill than traditional telephone service.
Vonage is much more than a residential home phone provider.
While many people know Vonage for replacing traditional landlines, the company also offers an extensive lineup of business communications services, including cloud-based business phone systems, virtual phone numbers, video meetings, messaging, and unified communications solutions for organizations of all sizes.
For homeowners, Vonage provides a familiar home phone experience using modern VoIP technology.
For businesses, it delivers professional communications tools that can grow alongside the company.
That combination of residential and business communications is one of the reasons Vonage has remained one of the most recognized names in VoIP for more than two decades.
Before replacing your home phone, ask yourself:
The answers to those questions are more important than simply comparing monthly prices.
Vonage has earned its reputation by delivering dependable internet-based telephone service for both homes and businesses.
Whether you're replacing an expensive traditional landline or looking for a professional communications solution for your business, Vonage deserves a place on your comparison list.
Unlike many of the services I review, I don't just know Vonage professionally—I know it personally.
I've had Vonage in my own home continuously since it launched to consumers in 2002.
Over the past two decades I've watched broadband internet become commonplace, VoIP technology mature, and home communications evolve dramatically.
Through all of those changes, Vonage has remained my home phone service.
That doesn't mean it's automatically the right choice for everyone.
It does mean my opinion comes from more than twenty years as an actual customer, not simply reading product specifications.
One of the biggest misconceptions I still hear is that VoIP somehow feels completely different from a traditional telephone.
It doesn't.
You still pick up the handset.
You still hear a dial tone.
You still dial the number.
You still have the conversation.
The difference is happening behind the scenes.
Instead of traveling across copper telephone lines, your voice is converted into digital data and transmitted across your internet connection.
In many cases, the audio quality is actually cleaner than the old Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), with virtually no static or background line noise.
There is one important tradeoff.
Traditional telephone service typically continued working during a power outage because the telephone company supplied power over the telephone line.
VoIP depends on your home's electricity and internet connection. If the power goes out, your modem, router, and Vonage adapter also lose power unless they're connected to a battery backup.
That's not a reason to avoid VoIP.
It's simply something every customer should understand before making the switch.
Helping people make smart buying decisions has always meant explaining both the advantages and the tradeoffs.
That's exactly why I created JackWagon.
